A new study of molecular characters of the genus Odontura showes the monophyly of the genus. Two subgenera are recognised: Odontura and Odonturella . The two Sicilian taxa proved to be completely identical, morphologically and bioacoustically. It is proposed that these should be treated as subspecies: Odontura stenoxypha stenoxypha and O. stenoxypha arcuata.
